Past Teaching Partnerships
Launched a Partnership with Seattle Theatre Group, Disney Touring Musicals and Melodic Caring Project. STG will hire local performers to head into hospitals with MCP, pre-Disney's arrival to teach the show tunes to the patients and brighten their day. Once Disney has arrives in town- a few of their performers will visit the same hospitals to say hello and sing along. Additionally, During one of the student friendly shows, MCP will live stream the performance and a special backstage tour with the cast.
"This merger and opportunity to see the joy in the faces of so many strong and enduring young people, reminded me exactly why I do what I do; to help the audience escape outside their own circumstances and see through the eyes of another."
~ Aviona, in reflection 2018
2019:
Aviona played the main character, Ella Mae, who left the stage for 11 seconds out of a 45 minute piece. This story tells of two young African American girls in the south during segregation, specifically in the time of Jim Crow laws. The girls learn of their societal differences when they go to the store to buy new shoes for school. Fed up by the injustice they are shown, these girls do chores around town and collect payment in old shoes and pennies. When they have enough materials- they open a shoe store where all are welcome to try on shoes openly. This story was genuiously told through music, narration, and african inspired step dance. This production is based off the book NEW SHOES written by Susan Lynn Meyer while adapted and directed by Lamar Legend. |
